New Look to install Crisplant sorter in new distribution centre
Crisplant awarded a contract to install the industry’s most energy-efficient sorter in the New Look Distribution Centre in Lymedale, Newcastle-under-Lyme
- New system based on the Crisplant LS-4000CB sorter
- The latest ‘green’ sorter reduces energy costs by 75%
- Crisplant to design the sorter with scope for further expansion
- Sorter offers a choice of three speeds to further reduce energy costs
Crisplant has been awarded a contract to design and install a high-speed material handling system, based on their latest, energy-efficient sorter, in New Look’s distribution centre in Lymedale, Newcastle-under-Lyme, UK. The installation of the new sorter will be completed in the latter half of 2011 and will provide New Look with increased capacity to meet current growth, as well as plans for further expansion within the same facility.
The new material handling system will be based on Crisplant’s LS-4000CB sorter which reduces energy consumption by up to 75% compared to sorters which use conventional motor technology. The LS-4000CB will be equipped with two cross belts per carrier, and will provide the flexibility to operate at three different speeds. This will allow New Look to optimise the sorting capacity while minimising wear and tear, noise level, and power consumption. To reflect actual demand, the system is designed to operate at a higher speed in peak seasons and to reduce the speed, when demand is lower.
The initial sorting system will integrate two induction areas and 120 discharges which enable 240 orders to be handled simultaneously. The design allows for further expansion with the possibility to extend the sorter to two layers with additional induction areas and discharges.
The sorter will be controlled and supervised by Crisplant Sorter Control (CSC) and Crisplant Machine Control (CMC) software, and will also include Manual Encoding Stations (MES). These robust controls feature an easy user interface, to give operators and management visibility of work-flows, and allow the system to be optimised for the highest efficiency.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2012 and will provide a capacity of 13,800 available cross belts per induction per hour.
New Look’s Project Director, Dino Tims explains, “We have awarded this contract to Crisplant because their proposed system will allow us to meet our commercial goals of continued expansion and a reduction in energy costs, as well as our environmental responsibility to minimise the impact on the environment. Crisplant’s reputation and experience in the distribution sector, combined with their vision of future expansion within our existing facilities, were also important factors in our decision.”
